The latest episode of the mobage-inspired anime had a little fun with Seventh Expansion‘s Higurashi no Naku Koro ni franchise. The episode sees our heroes enter an allegedly haunted mansion to remove some spirals and help the village’s townspeople but they quickly discover than no spirals are present and the plot quickly begins to imitate the storyline of the original kinetic novel and anime series.

The first sign is the episode’s eye-catch, where the logo is changed so that the “na” symbol is red, just like Higurashi’s.

The town’s mayor is then shown entertaining three guests about upcoming improvements to the village. He mentions that some have suggested renaming the town “Hinamizawa” which is the setting of Higurashi, and also that construction has been delayed. This is the same plot as a major conflict from the series, but while the town in Last Period wants add an amusement park to attract more people, the townspeople of Hinamizawa were protesting the construction of a dam that would flood the whole town.

The planned amusement park attractions are all related to Higurashi as well. The episode even goes so far as to include cicadas crying during scene breaks.

Then the episode decides to quit beating around the bush with the appearance of Rika.

She doesn’t like Tabasco sauce.

And the rest of Hinamizawa’s star characters appear too. It was all a meta-gag about mobage game cross-overs, in this case Higurashi collaborating with Last Period.

How does the crew survive a confrontation with anime’s scariest school club? Well, I won’t spoil the ending.
