Rina Matsuno transported to the ER

According to various Japanese news outlets, Rina Matsuno of the popular Japanese pop idol group, Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku (or Ebichu) passed away earlier today of natural causes. While specifics have not been released to the public, it was reported that she was currently taking a break from her concert due to poor health. At around 5AM JST her parents noticed something was awry and called 119 immediately to have her transported to the ER where she passed away.

Sister group to Momoiro Clover Z

Ebichu is a group under Stardust Promotion, making them a younger sister group to the widely popular Momoiro Clover Z. Since the group’s major record debut, they have consistently placed within Top 10 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart. Naturally this news has sent the idol community reeling and we send our thoughts and prayers to Matsuno’s family, friends, and fans.

Update 2/7/2017 10:10PM PST: Ebichu’s official site is currently down due to the large amount of fans seeking information. Though various sources has stated the cause to be acute viral encephalitis due to influenza there is still no formal statement of cause.

Update 2/8/2017 1:50AM PST: Ebichu’s official website is now running again. Despite various rumors, Ebichu’s official statement simply reflects prior reports in that Matsuno was absent from a concert due to poor health, and subsequently passed away in the ER after her parents noticed her health took a turn for the worse and had her transported. Until further official notice becomes available to the public, we at Doki Press will respect the family and production’s discretion.
