The popular AKB48 drama, Majisuka Gakuen, is set to receive a new stage play come July starring popular member, Yuki Kashiwagi. Majisuka Gakuen is a fun and rowdy homage to the Japanese “Yankee” or delinquent genre and features the group’s members in an all-girls school of the same name where the main character must beat up other girls on her way to the top. Kashiwagi played a prominent role in the first season of the series, and has since maintained a solid acting career in various dramas.
The announcement was made during Kashiwagi’s solo concert in Tokyo on May 12th 2016. Kashiwagi expressed her happiness in being able to star in a stage play for the first time as well as her need to try her best in gratitude for this new opportunity.
“Butai no shuen wa hajimete desu. Ureshii! Arata na jibun wo mite itadakeru node, ganbarasete itadakimasu!”
Aside from Kashiwagi, other members announced to be participating in the production include, Ami Yumoto, Anna Iriyama, Ayana Shinozaki, Chiyori Nakanishi, Juri Takahashi, Mako Kojima, Mogi Shinobu, Nana Okada, Nao Nomura, Ryoka Oshima, Yuka Tano, and Yukari Sasaki. Those interested in seeing the performance live will be able to see it at the Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo from July 25th to August 5th 2016.
